General description of the collection: The Chapla Family papers spans the years 1925-2000 primarily covering the military service of brothers Albert and Benjamin Chapla. The bulk of the materials are about the U.S. Army service of Benjamin C. Chapla from the United States Military Academy in 1939 to his final assignment as the Deputy Post Commander, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania in 1969. Highlights include a scrapbook regarding service as a regimental commander of the 24th Infantry in Korea from 1957-1958. Materials relating to Benjamin C. Chapla include documents, photographs, scrapbooks and correspondence. The materials relating to Albert B. Chapla include official papers, newspaper clippings and photographs regarding his military service as a surgeon with the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II.
